Painting with Natural Dye on Fabric Tutorial

Sale Price:$15.00 Original Price:$20.00

In this tutorial you’ll learn how to make concentrated liquid dyes and how to transform them into paint perfect for painting or printing on protein fibers especially. For the most striking & graphic prints use a PROTEIN fiber fabric like silk or wool. **Cellulose/Plant fibers like organic cotton, lightweight linen & hemp can work- but the final results of this technique are less fast and durable to light and physical manipulation on cellulose fibers. If you chose to use a cellulose fiber fabric- guidance for the best results are included in the tutorial. To paint on cellulose/plant fibers like cotton or linen I recommend my Painting with Mordants Tutorial or my Painting Stripes with Natural Dye Tutorial.

One wonderful aspect of this direct application of dye to fiber technique that stands in contrast to the Mordant Painting Technique here, is that it allows for various different dyestuff types to be applied on a single composition/fabric in one process.

You can use this tutorial for many different dyestuffs including other dye flowers like coreopsis, chamomile, tansy, goldenrod, etc. as well as almost any other water soluble natural dyestuff whose dye can be extracted in concentration such as cochineal, madder, logwood, weld, etc. And you may also like to experiment with skipping the dye extraction process from raw dyestuffs altogether and simply work with concentrated natural dye extracts.

You will also learn how to stretch fabric for the best painting precise results!

Included: Supplies list for dye materials and dyeables, recipes for paint making, step by step guidance on the entire process with color photo imagery.

After purchase you will receive an email with the Tutorial Download.
